Don’t want to spend a fortune on your child’s Halloween costume this year? We understand! In fact, you can create a wonderful costume using what you have around the house and just adding a few key accessories.  You can make a terrific homemade  cowboy/cowgirl costume for under $10!

Start with the basics:

• Blue jeans and a white or plaid shirt;
• Add  a bandana and knot that around the neck ($1.49)
• Another idea is to make a bolo tie out of some string or even a shoelace.
• A belt with a large buckle adds to the costume
• Make “chaps” out of butcher block paper if you want to get fancy!
• If you have cowboy boots you can add those, too (but tennis shoes work just fine)!
• Add a cowboy hat and some costume spurs for only $1.99 each and you’re nearly there!
• Don’t forget the Sheriff’s Badge (a steal at only $1.49)

Grand total= $6.96!

Create a Cowboy Vest

Supplies:

• Large Brown Grocery Story Bag
• Markers, stickers, crayons

Directions:

• A paper grocery bag has three parts : flap, sides, and the top edge (the opening).
• Place the unfolded bag on a flat surface, bottom folded flap facing up. The top edge should be nearest you and find and mark the middle (approximately 6 inches).
• On the closed flap, draw a 4 inch circle in the center for the neck opening.
• Open the paper bag completely. Find your mark along the top and cut a straight line from the edge up to your circle and then cut out the circle.
• On the sides of the paper bag at about 2 inches down , cut an oval on each side (about 6 inches in diameter) for the arm openings.
• Fringe the bottom
• Have the kids decorate any way they’d like with stickers, crayons, markers, etc.

Not only will you save money, you’ll have fun with your little one as they can help put the whole costume together.
