Halloween Obstacle Course – Children love obstacle courses, so why not create one in your own backyard  or school gym this Halloween? Come up with several ideas, such as bales of hale they can jump over, a ring of ghosts they need to jump through, tubes they can crawl through, a balance beam with a hanging ghost, a wooden ladder placed on the ground to step over, crab walk, and/or a rope swing.

Next, make a map of the obstacle course for each child complete with a numbered sequenced order of the events, marked by arrows, so each contestant understands the order of the game. When you are ready to play the game, have the children divide up into two teams at opposite ends. Have each child start at the beginning line and send them through one at a time. The first team to finish is the winner.

Play best two out of three, or three out of five depending on the skill level of the children. When done, give both teams a Halloween goody bag as their trophy for doing such a great job. Fill them with some small  mementos like Halloween toys and stickers.

Black Crow Halloween Craft

Looking for some fun and easy crafts to make at home or for a Halloween school party? You’ve come to the right place. These black crows are easily made using the following supplies:

• Two 9” paper plates (if you can find black paper plates it will make this craft really easy, otherwise you’ll need to paint them black.)
• Black paint
• Craft knife
• Tacky glue
• Google eyes
• Yellow construction paper

Instructions:

If using white plates, paint them black.

Fold one plate in half. Cut a 4 inch slit on each side so that you can insert the wings. Then cut a quarter inch slit in the back to hold the tail.

Cut the second plate in half and then trim off about an inch on the straight side. This will be used for the wings. Insert into the first plate.

Cut the remaining half of the plate in half and trim off about an inch from the straight side. This will be used for the tail. Insert into the first plate.

Cut a triangle out of yellow paper and fold it in half. This will be used for the beak. Insert into the front of the plate and glue in place.

Glue the google eyes next to the beak and you have a black crow that is easy to hang with a string or to place on a flat surface.

Super Mario Craft:If you are looking for an easy craft and want to stretch your birthday budget, set up a table and have your guests paint the letters on their own hats. Now form two teams, the Mario team and the Luigi team. Once you have formed two teams, there are any number of competitive team party games you can try.

Wanna make a Super Mario Bros cake?

Bake and frost a round or rectangular cake. Find a cool Mario picture online at sites like: jimbo’s Coloring Pages, that you like and blow it up on the copy machine. When I was about 11 years old, my mom taught us about UNICEF.  If you don’t know about UNICEF, pre-Halloween is a great time to learn more and become involved.  Their sole purpose is to help children survive and they we will do whatever it takes to save a child.  My mom didn’t explain it quite as eloquently, but I understood it enough to know that what I was doing was a good thing.  My sister and I would dress in our Halloween costumes and, in addition to our Trick or Treat Bags, we would carry a coin box for UNICEF.  We would ring each doorbell and proclaim “Trick or Treat for UNICEF” and, more time than not, we’d get a donation and an extra handful of candy!  I still remember how excited each donation made me!

Trick or Treat for UNICEF is a worldwide campaign to involve children in giving, not getting.  The U.S. Fund for UNICEF is committed to empowering children to make a real difference in the lives of their peers in need around the world. They organize all kinds of activities to help kids learn how important it is to give to others and what fun it is to plan an activity and then share the benefits with a child who has far less than do they.

Let your kids know they don’t have to give up their trick or treating or Halloween fun.  Encourage them to help you pick their costumes, treat bags and more.  This year, as always, be sure to order your Halloween costumes and party goods early and avoid the fall rush.  Get a costume for yourself, too and don’t forget your four-legged friend!  Planning early gives you more time to plan some UNICEF activities, like a Carnival.
