Keeping your children safe this Halloween is a lot more than just throwing away opened or unfamiliar candy. Keep these safety tips in mind for a healthy and fun Halloween:

  • Always remember safety basics like do not get into cars with strangers, enter a home without adult supervision, and to look both ways before crossing streets.

  • Walk don’t run.
  • Use battery operated tea candles or glow sticks instead of candles in your jack-o-lanterns.
  • Make sure that costumes are fireproof and fit properly. Costumes should not  fit properly (check out our costume sizing chart) be too big or too long so that children don’t trip over them.
  • Send the kids out with a flashlight or glow stick so that they can see as well as be seen.
  • Glue or tape some reflective tape or other reflective material to the costume.
  • Trick or treat in groups and only go to houses with lights on.
  • Walk on sidewalks. Don’t walk in the streets or cut across lawns, etc.
  • We all want to limit the amount of Halloween candy our children devour. A popular alternative is to let children pick their favorites and donate the rest to a shelter or trade them back to the “Great Pumpkin” in exchange for a small toy.
  • If the idea of child + knife seems like a frightening combination to you, there are lots of alternatives to carving a pumpkin. You can paint them or design with Halloween stickers, or dress them up with funny hats.

So remember, have fun this Halloween and take a few extra precautions to keep your family safe too. Below are few items to help keep your kids safe!
